terrible service

at home properties is probably the WORST business venue i have associated with my entire life. they were horrible with maintenance requests. i lived in a dulex while under their management and numerous times our neighbors filled out a maintenance request, and they came to my home and did the replacement maintenance when we never even needed it. they charged us for it anyways even after notifying them it wasn't requested/needed. there was a point where someone ran over the water meter in the ground with their truck and it busted a water pipe underneath the meter box. i think it was someone random, not even a tenant, and they ended up charging us. they charged us an extra $400 pet fee when there was only one dog, which the pet deposit was paid for. they never informed us ahead of time when they were going to do walk thru's for future tenants. when i moved in, one of the previous tenants stayed and renewed his lease for another year seeing as he was a friend of mine. at home NEVER came in for maintenance, carpet cleaning, or damage repairs prior to moving in even though it was requested. they ended up charging me for repairs and cleaning that was never done by them that were required. they charged me for taking MY OWN ENERGY EFFICIENT LIGHT BULBS that i replaced their bulbs with. they charged me for not returning the house key, that i paid out of my own pocket for a copy, since they never provided me with one upon moving in. they charged me for 'not putting a new air filter' in for the a/c, for the next tenants. which i assumed was some thing they were responsible for, not me. our backyard fence was in horrible condition and our dog continuously escaped the back yard numerous times and ran free around college station, which eventually the police and dog pound got involved. the previous tenants were cigarette smokers and left cigarette butts all over the front yard and driveway, which they charged ME for instead of taking it from the previous tenants deposit. due to them being smokers, they charged US, not the previous tenants, a fee for smoking in the house AND a fee for repainting the walls due to 'cigarette smoke'. none of us during my 1 yr lease there were smokers. they claimed we made late payments on rent and didnt pay late fees which according to my bank statements, it was all paid on time. i feel like they intentionally held on to rent payments, just to accrue late charges and then bring it up and throw it in my face AFTER the lease ended. i moved out of their property about a week and a half before the lease ended because my new lease in a different location had started. well the other 2 roommates stayed until the lease was completely over. unfortunately, those 2 didnt clean everything they were responsible for, nor did they move all of their property out. due to that, all 3 of us was charged for not cleaning, charged for at home having to throw away the left behind property, and charged us simply bc property was left behind. i attemped to speak to our leasing agent and the owner of the company about working out a possible deal, or 'plea bargain' if you will, for me seperately seeing as i was not responsible for the charges ater moving out, and wasnt responsible for any of the nonsense fees and repairs accrued while living there. the 2 individuals literally, laughed in my face and just flashed the lease at me claiming 'i signed a contractual lease' and im accountable for everything they charged. at the end of the day, that makes very much sense. but i feel they intentionally took advantage of us because they knew we were young college students, that were still uneducated and inexperienced on this type of situation. now, i have a $3700 charge being reported to my credit and i can't do anything about it. ive tried disputing the issue through credit bureaus but have had no luck. unfortunately, this dilemma has came back to haunt me in many ways. i would NEVER recommend this company to ANYONE. their services was more than horrible, they lied to us on many different occasions, and was only concerned with profit. they arent even part of the BBB and that says ALOT. even property OWNERS who let athome properties manage their property, highly dislike their service. renting through athome was a nightmare that is still haunting me, and i regret every last second of dealing with them. by far, the worst experience ever in my life. DO NOT LEASE THROUGH AT HOME PROPERTIES, you WILL pay more than you signed up for.
